Kayak
School - Learn to Kayak
Learn to kayak with us the traditional
way. Most of the kayaking skills we teach today originated 5,000 years
ago among the indigenous people of the Arctic. Often referred to as
Greenland kayaking, traditional kayaking skills encompass many
historical and cultural variations. But it’s an interest in
Greenland paddling with its emphasis on rolling techniques, that is
fueling a growing interest in this fascinating aspect of kayaking.
We
are passionate about traditional skills and dedicated to preserving and
promoting them. We offer introductory and intermediate classes in
paddling
and rolling techniques.
Kayak,
Qayaq, or Qajaq means "hunter's boat" in Inuit. You don't have to have
a special boat to learn these skills, but you do need a traditional
style paddle. We provide the equipment, enthusiasm and top-notch
teaching. You provide an adventurous spirit and an eagerness to learn.
If you have never been in a kayak before, this is a
great way to start. If you already know how to kayak with "Euro"
blades, let us show you the fun and grace of this ancient art. And if
you're already a convert, watch our schedule for the chance to learn
and practice new skills or call us to set up a private lesson.
